Paradise Tanager: One of the most beautiful birds on planet

Paradise Tanager :

With a brightly multi-colored body the Paradise Tanager is indeed one of the most beautiful birds and a treat to the eyes. The Paradise Tanager is endowed by seven different colors making it stand out and thus easily identifiable. That it is also a songbird further makes the Paradise Tanager much sought after by bird and nature lovers. The Paradise Tanager is found in humid tropical and sub-tropical forests of the Amazon Basin in South America and is seen in countries of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru & Venezuela.

The bird has been categorized under 4 subspecies based on the color of their rump, which is either entirely red or a mix of red and yellow.  Known to be highly social and restless, they are usually seen in flocks of 5 – 20 and rarely stay in one area for very long.  They generally feed on fruits (fruit pulp, seeds) but also consume insects (grasshoppers, spiders, crickets), although instances of the latter are much less.

Both sexes of the Paradise Tanager look alike and it is extremely difficult to differentiate between the males and the females through appearance. Studying the bird’s behavior, it is established that the male tends to sing more often than the female. The female is primarily responsible for nest building, while the male would accompany the female when she is gathering nesting materials.  The male may even or sing or call nearby the nesting site while the female is busy building the nest. There have also been some reports where both the male and female have jointly built the nest.

The sheer brilliant colors have also ensured that Paradise Tanagers have been captured from their natural habitat to be made pets although a great deal of high and proper daily care is required to ensure stable health.

Some reports suggest a declining trend in the population of Paradise Tanager, however, they are yet not considered as `threatened species’.

Oxford English Dictionary

amazing facts

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is a premier and globally the most popular dictionary of the English language, published by Oxford University Press – the largest university press in the world. It all began in 1857 when members of the Philological Society of London (the oldest learned society in Great Britain dedicated to the study of language) concluded that the then existing English language dictionaries were incomplete in many respects.  A full-blown review of the language was the outcome of the conclusion and deliberations and this is the genesis of the Oxford Dictionary.  What however started with tremendous fanfare and an initial timeline of 10 years took decades to evolve and the first part of the dictionary could be published in 1884.

Other facts around the Oxford English Dictionary:

  1. Other than words coined in Britain, the dictionary encompasses borrowed foreign words from various countries, such as the US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, etc.
  2. The first edition of the OED (with ten volumes and 400,000 definitions) was published in 1928, 71 years after it had been conceived.
  3.  The second edition (with twenty volumes) was published in 1989.
  4. The CD-ROM version of the dictionary was first published in 1992.
  5. The online version has been available since 2000.
  6. OED has never been commercially profitable for its publishers Oxford University Press at any point of time.
  7. It may never be published on paper in future.
  8. According to OED, the longest word in the English language is “pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis”, which refers to a lung disease (inflammation in the lungs) caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust.
  9. One of the members involved in creating OED, William Chester Minor, was a psychopathic murderer and did much of his OED research while in a lunatic asylum.
  10. In spite of its massive size, OED is not the world’s largest dictionary of a language, a distinction held by the Dutch dictionary Woordenboek der Nederlandsche Taal.
OED is recognized the world over as the ultimate authority on the (English) language.  According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the OED with descriptions for approximately 600,000 words is the world’s most comprehensive single-language print dictionary.  Other than an important record of the evolution of English language, OED is considered symbolic of the continuing development of the society.

What is a Heart Attack?

A heart attack occurs when the flow of oxygen to a certain part of the heart is blocked; this is normally just a heart muscle. Since the oxygen is transferred through the blood, it means that the flow of blood to that part has been blocked by a clot which could be positioned in the veins.

heart attack

In most cases, heart attacks can be identified by plain symptoms like short of breath and chest pains. In some cases, the pain could be very severe on the left arm or the upper part of the stomach. This is different from the usual abdominal pains that may be a result of some problem in the stomach as it is highly discomforting and painful.

What to do in case of a heart attack?

When symptoms of a heart attack are observed, it is better to take swift action to save a life. In most cases, the problem easily leads to death because of delayed action. But as soon as it has been suspected there are two modes of treatment that can be taken. The first of the two involves introducing a drug that can dissolve the clot responsible for the blockage so that blood can continue flowing through the affected vein and deliver the oxygen to the heart muscle in question. But in the other method, a specialist doctor or heart surgeon can be called in to enlarge the cross sectional area of the vein to allow more fluid to flow so that the oxygen can reach the affected heart muscle.

How to avoid Heart Attack?

In order to prevent heart attacks there are several steps that can be taken. The first one involves looking at the kind of food you take. The food should have less fat but rich in leafy material and fiber. It is also encouraged that you avoid smoking and take regular exercise. Alcohol should also be avoided to reduce the risks of heart attacks. In the end, you need to make sure that you maintain your weight and you continue going for checkups so that you maintain a healthy heart all the time.

You can avoid heart problems in the future by adopting a healthy lifestyle today. Here are five heart disease prevention tips to get you started.

1. Don’t smoke or use tobacco.

Chemicals in tobacco can damage your heart and blood vessels, leading to narrowing of the arteries (atherosclerosis). The nicotine in cigarette smoke makes your heart work harder by narrowing your blood vessels and increasing your heart rate and blood pressure. The good news, though, is that when you quit smoking, your risk of heart disease drops dramatically within just one year.

2. Exercise for 30 minutes on most days of the week

Try getting at least 30 to 60 minutes of moderately intense physical activity most days of the week. However, even shorter amounts of exercise offer heart benefits, so if you can’t meet those guidelines, don’t give up. You can even break up your workout time into 10-minute sessions.

3. Eat a heart-healthy diet

eating foods that are low in fat, cholesterol and salt. The diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products, which can help protect your heart. Beans, other low-fat sources of protein and certain types of fish also can reduce your risk of heart disease.

4. Maintain a healthy weight

  • Men are considered overweight if their waist measurement is greater than 40 inches (101.6 centimeters, or cm)

  • Women are overweight if their waist measurement is greater than 35 inches (88.9 cm)

Even a small weight loss can be beneficial. Reducing your weight by just 10 percent can decrease your blood pressure, lower your blood cholesterol level and reduce your risk of diabetes.

5. Get regular health screenings

High blood pressure and high cholesterol can damage your heart and blood vessels. But without testing for them, you probably won’t know whether you have these conditions. Regular screening can tell you what your numbers are and whether you need to take action. Blood pressure. You may need more-frequent checks if your numbers aren’t ideal or if you have other risk factors for heart disease. Optimal blood pressure is less than 120/80 millimeters of mercury.

This chart reflects blood pressure categories defined by the American Heart Association.

Blood Pressure

When to eat FRUIT ?

read this below to see astonishing news:

Dr Stephen Mak told …..that he treats terminal cancer patients in an “un-orthodox” way, and many patients recovered.

He explained that before he uses solar energy to clear the illnesses of his patients, he believes on natural healing in the body against illnesses. See the article below. Thanks for the email on fruits and juices. It’s one of the strategies to heal cancer. Lately, my success rate in curing cancer is about 80%. Cancer patients shouldn’t die.. The cure for cancer has already been found, whether you believe it or not.

I am sorry for the hundreds of cancer patients who die under the conventional treatments. Very few live for 5 years under conventional treatments, and most live for only about 2 to 3 years… The conventional treatments don’t make any difference, because most cancer patients also live for about 2 to 3 years without any treatment. It is difficult to cure cancer patients who’ve undergone chemo and radiotherapy, as their cells are toxic and weak. When there is a relapse, the cancer spreads very fast, as the resistance is poor.

This is informative!
?ng fruit, cutting it up and popping it into our mouths. It’s not that easy. It’s important to know how and when to eat fruit.

What’s the correct way to eat fruit?

Eating fruit like that plays a major role in detoxifying your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities..

Let’s say you eat two slices of bread, then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it’s prevented from doing so.

In the meantime, the whole meal rots and ferments, and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach, and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.
Eat your fruit on an empty stomach, or before your meal! You’ve heard people complain: Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat during my stomach bloats, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc. This will not happen if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas. Hence, you bloat!
Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes – all of these will NOT happen if you eat fruit on an empty stomach.

There’s no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruit becomes alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruit, you have the Secret of Beauty, Longevity, Health, Energy, Happiness and normal weight.
When you need to drink fruit juice drink only fresh-fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don’t drink juice that has been heated. Don’t eat cooked fruit; you don’t get the nutrients at all. You get  only the taste… Cooking destroys all of the vitamins.
Eating a whole fruit is etter than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your body. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice for just 3 days, and you will be surprised when your friends say how radiant you look!
Tiny but mighty, and a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange!
a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C, thereby helping to lower the risk of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.
Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones, and reduce the risk of colon cancer.
Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione   , the cancer-fighting oxidant. Also found in watermelon: Vitamin C & Potassium..
Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene, good for your eyes..
Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer!

Can u believe this? For those who like to drink cold water, this applies to you. It’s nice to have a cold drink after a meal, however, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you’ve just consumed, which

slows digestion. Once this ‘sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer.. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
A serious note about heart attacks.

Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they’re asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Be careful, and be aware. The more we know, the better our chance to survive.

A cardiologist said if everyone who read this and share  it with other people, you can be sure that we’ll save at least one life.

It  can even be your life!

ARTISTS trucks painting

alk about traffic stoppers?!

Here are 7 pictures of German trucks whose trailers are decorated to look like the sides are missing and the products they are hauling are painted on the sides and back.
The first one is of a bottle of beer and looks so real, like it is coming out the side of the trailer…

The second is of canvas tote bag.

The third is of Pepsi cases and they are all stacked on the ceiling, and the bottom of the trailer is empty…

The fourth is of another truck with the windshield facing the back and there has been a driver painted in the driver’s seat looking back over his shoulder to appear like he is driving backwards. (Now this one is just plain scary, even when the German reads ‘On the wrong way?’)

The fifth one is of an aquarium with fish swimming in it.

The sixth one is of a bookshelf with books lined up in it and a post-it-note with an advertisement on it, probably for the company that sells the books.

The last one is for Pringles-Hot & Spicy.
The ‘inside’ of the trailer has the appearance of having been through a fire.

Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II

The Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II is a multinational celebration throughout 2012 marking the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the thrones of seven countries upon the death of her father, King George VI, on 6 February 1952. She is today queen regnant of 16 sovereign states, 12 of which were British colonies or Dominions at the start of her reign. Queen Victoria is the only other monarch in the histories of the United Kingdom,[1] Canada,[2][3][4] Australia, New Zealand and a few other Commonwealth realms to have celebrated a Diamond Jubilee, which she did in 1897.
